The Wedi Building Panel 36" x 60" x 1/2" is a fully waterproof, mold-proof tile backer board designed for professional installers who need a flat, reliable substrate in wet areas. Sold in a pallet of 50 sheets (covering up to 750 sq. ft.), this lightweight XPS foam backer replaces traditional cement board with a cleaner, faster, and more consistent installation experience.

• 100% Waterproof & Mold Proof Core
  The blue extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam core is inherently waterproof and closed-cell, so moisture can’t soak in. Once seams and fasteners are sealed, the assembly protects framing from water intrusion, mold, and mildew over the long term.

• Ready-to-Tile – No Extra Membrane Needed
  The factory-applied cementitious coating and waterproof foam core create a backer that doesn’t need additional sheet or liquid membranes in standard wet-area applications. Just install, seal seams with Wedi joint sealant, and start tiling once the sealant skins over.

• Lightweight & Easy to Handle
  At roughly 11 lb per 3' x 5' panel, these boards are significantly lighter than cement board. That means faster trips up stairs, easier handling on scaffolds, and less fatigue over a full bathroom or multi-unit job.

  Panels score and snap cleanly with a utility knife or cut with a saw—no grinding dust clouds like fiber cement. This keeps the job site cleaner and minimizes airborne silica exposure.

  Can be fastened to wood or steel studs, or installed over stable existing surfaces like old tile or gypsum board in remodel situations (per manufacturer guidelines). 

• Environmentally Conscious, HBCD-Free Foam Core
  The XPS foam core is manufactured without HBCD flame retardants—materials identified as environmentally harmful and subject to bans—using foaming agents compliant with the Montreal Protocol.

  Wedi Building Panels have been tested under ANSI A118.10 (load-bearing, bonded waterproof membranes) and ASTM C578 for foam backer performance and are recognized in TCNA guidelines for use in wall and floor tile assemblies.
